Open Badges bring buzz to developing employees’ competencies
Minna Haasio, Matti Mäkelä, Riikka Muurimäki and Kimmo Puumala will present how they’re using Open Badges to update the digital skills of all employees of Opinlakeus, Sedu and SeAMK.
Opinlakeus network, that operates in Seinäjoki and its surrounding municipalities, organises further education in several different ways to the employees of the educational institutions operating in the area. Their aim is to achieve a certain level regarding the digital skills of the entire staff. Since the staff’s participation to certain training went down every year, they decided to try a completely new way to offer further education. They designed and implemented a Moodle based online course and after completing it, the participant receives an Open Badge. They wanted to link issued badges to be a part of the whole organisation’s development process at the same time.
Sedu and SeAMK are the first organisations where Open Badges have been used in the Opinlakeus network. These two organisations have also been organising digital courses for the whole network. It’s been possible to notice that teacher’s own experiences in earning an Open Badge bring transfer of learning to the implementation of teaching. A well-functioning model can be transferred to all educational organisations of the network.
