Open Badge Factory adds support for CASE frameworks

For many of our customers, competency alignment gives badges real meaning. To support this need, Open Badge Factory now supports CASE, the Competency and Academic Standards Exchange format developed by 1EdTech.

What is CASE and who benefits?

CASE is an open interoperability standard for sharing competency frameworks, learning standards, and curriculum maps in a machine-readable format. Organizations across the United States already use it widely, and adoption continues to grow internationally.

North American universities benefit from CASE because they embed competency frameworks into curricula and accreditation processes. Our Japanese partners and customers also increasingly rely on structured competency alignment for academic and workforce recognition.

ESCO: updated and as important as ever

As a European company, ESCO — the EU’s multilingual classification of skills, competences, qualifications and occupations — has always been central to what Open Badge Factory offers.

We’ve supported ESCO for years, and with this release we’ve updated our integration to use the latest ESCO API (1.2.0), keeping alignment accurate and current for our European customers and beyond.

One of the widest competency alignment options available

CASE and ESCO together give Open Badge Factory users broad coverage across North American, European, and international frameworks — making it easier than ever to issue badges that carry real meaning in the systems your learners and stakeholders work within.

By supporting interoperable competency frameworks alongside Open Badges 3.0, Open Badge Factory continues to help organizations build trusted and meaningful digital credential ecosystems.
