Recipients of this badge were selected for their outstanding engagement at the Augsburg Technical University of Applied Sciences to participate in the international, English-language honors program on the topic of “The Power of Optimism” in the summer semester of 2025 in an interdisciplinary setting with 14 lecturers. In the modern, interactive learning environment of the SCALE-UP room, students contributed their creativity each week in class and through blog posts summarizing and reflecting on the sessions, including photos and videos, and reflecting on the discussions. This badge recognizes their active participation, strong engagement, and ability to work creatively, interdisciplinarily, and internationally in English.

Center for Teaching and Media (DMZ)

The Center for Teaching and Media aims to keep improving teaching and learning at the Augsburg Technical University of Applied Sciences. As part of that, the DMZ manages the university’s digital badges – called “Open Badges.”

Criteria

Contents:

  • The Power of Optimism
  • Designing and developing optimistic solutions
  • Psychological and social perspectives on optimism (empowerment, job search, and bias)
  • Trust and communication in optimism (brand building, feedback, and dialogue)
  • Sustainability and technology: low-tech, digital transformation, and design futuring
  • Creative and applied optimism projects (Optimism Creatures, global goals, local action)
  • Critical reflections on optimism and pessimism in the age of AI

Duration:

  • 13x 1.5 h in presence
  • 8 h self-study
