The Inter-American Development Bank, through BIDAcademy, issues the following digital badge and certifies that the recipient has demonstrated competencies in planning strategic actions for the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in the civil service, after having passed the course “Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI): Fundamentals for the Latin American and Caribbean Civil Service”. The strategic competency in Generative Artificial Intelligence in the civil service demonstrates that the recipient values the advantages of using Generative Artificial Intelligence in the public service, considering its possible limitations and risks; and has a strategic action plan to use it responsibly, with the objective of having an impact on the activities he/she develops and in his/her context. The recipients are professionals who perform various functions in different areas and sectors of the civil service in Latin America and the Caribbean.

How did you earn this badge?

To obtain this credential, the applicant must have fulfilled the following requirements:

  • Successfully completed the course “Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI): Fundamentals for the Latin American and Caribbean Civil Service”.
  • Obtained and added the digital credential for the course to their CredencialesBID Passport.
  • Presented evidence of a strategic action plan for applying Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in their professional context and/or deepening their understanding of GenAI. This plan includes at least one of the following actions:
    • Planning a process to analyze the advantages, limitations, and potential risks of using GenAI in specific civil service situations.
    • Planning concrete actions to promote the governance and institutional use of GenAI within their context, ensuring responsible implementation.
    • Planning specific actions to integrate GenAI into certain situations, activities, and/or projects in the civil service, while adhering to guidelines for responsible use.
    • Planning targeted actions to advocate for the responsible use of GenAI in civil service activities and/or projects, such as training programs, publication of guidelines, or other dissemination efforts.
    • Planning actions to establish standards, policies, guidelines, or other frameworks for the responsible use of GenAI in the civil sector.
    • Planning post-course learning activities related to GenAI, such as academic tasks, additional courses, or other forms of education.

Why is it meaningful?

This badge is significant because it serves as evidence that the recipient recognizes the relevance and usefulness of the learning acquired in the course "Generative Artificial Intelligence: Fundamentals for the Latin America and the Caribbean Civil Service” and has developed a strategic action plan to improve their performance and make a positive impact in the context of the civil service and in their professional development, through the use of GenAI.

The Strategic Competency in GenAI, earned time after completing the course, indicates that the recipient recognizes the value of the acquired learning for their professional activity and is committed to progressing their record of achievements in relation to the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in the civil service context.

Objectives

To develop a strategic action plan for the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), in a safe and responsible manner, and/or to deepen the learning of GenAI, with a view to making an impact on their professional activity and on the public service, based on the lessons learned in the course “Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI): Fundamentals for the Latin American and Caribbean Civil Service”.

This Strategic Competency in GenAI implies that the credential recipient has achieved the following objectives:

  • To critically reflect on the importance of incorporating Generative Artificial Intelligence in the public sector, considering its widespread and extensive application across various fields.
  • To identify specific short- and medium-term actions for the appropriate integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence in specific civil service situations.
  • Identify concrete short and medium-term actions to deepen their learning related to Generative Artificial Intelligence.

Evidence description

This credential is issued after verification and approval by a review team based on the following evidence:

  1. Response to the questions posed in the application form
  2. Presentation of a strategic plan that includes at least one strategic action to incorporate in the civil service context, or to deepen knowledge about the GenAI. The plan should specify, for each strategic action:
    • Type of planned action (application, learning, knowledge dissemination, publication, or other)
    • Description of the problem and objective for which the planned action will be carried out
    • Activities to be undertaken to implement the action
    • Planned execution date for the action
    • Criteria for evaluating the results achieved with the planned action
