The Inter-American Development Bank, through BIDAcademy, issues the following digital badge to certify that the recipient has demonstrated competencies in the safe and responsible use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), as support tool in activities and/or projects developed in the civil service. By using GenAI safely and responsibly, the recipient demonstrates the ability to leverage its benefits, recognize its limitations and risks, structure prompts to improve response generation, and apply principles and recommendations to minimize the potential risks of this technology. The recipients are professionals who perform various functions in different areas and sectors of the civil service in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Learning goals

To use and promote the responsible use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in the context of civil service.

The Professional Competency in GenAI in the Civil Service implies that the credential recipient has demonstrated the ability to achieve one or more of the following objectives:

  • Recognize opportunities to apply GenAI in the civil service and implement concrete actions to use it.
  • Critically analyze the advantages and limitations of using Gen AI in specific activities and/or projects carried out in the context of the civil service.
  • Implement actions to use GenAI responsibly, minimizing potential risks associated with its use.
  • Use GenAI for specific problems and objectives related to the public function, by structuring prompts appropriately.
  • Promote the responsible use of Gen AI in civil service, by disseminating knowledge and executing actions in their area of work.

Learning experience and activities

To obtain this credential, the applicant must have fulfilled the following requirements:

  • Having approved and obtained the credential for the course "Generative Artificial Intelligence: Fundamentals for the Latin American and Caribbean Civil Service" and received the "Strategic Competency in Generative Artificial Intelligence in the Civil Service" credential.
  • Engagement in one or more of the following activities or collaborations:
    • Analyze the potential advantages, limitations and possible risks of the use of the Gen AI in specific situations related to their work in the civil service.
    • Incorporate GenAI into specific situations and/or projects relevant to their civil service activity, while considering recommendations for its safe and responsible use.
    • Disseminate recommendations for the responsible use of the Gen AI within the context of the civil service.

Evidence description

This credential is issued after verification and approval by a review team based on one of the following pieces of evidence submitted by the individual applying for the badge (if they have more than one piece of evidence, they can present them, as well as add new evidence after receiving the credential):

  • A descriptive document analyzing the advantages, limitations and potential risks of using Gen AI in situations, activities and/or specific projects of its activity within the civil service.
  • A descriptive document detailing concrete actions to promote the use of the GenAI in specific civil service contexts, incorporating recommendations for its responsible use.
  • A descriptive document detailing specific activities and/or projects in their work area where they have incorporated the use of GenAI.
  • A descriptive document outlining activities to promote the responsible use of Gen AI in the civil service, including knowledge dissemination activities, publications, and other initiatives.
  • Documentation of concrete actions taken within the context of the civil service to ensure the responsible use of GenAI, and to mitigate its potential risks.
  • Documentation of activities carried out to deepen their learning related to GenAI.

Estimated effort

The preparation of the evidence(s) of Professional Competency in Generative Artificial Intelligence in the Civil Service has involved an estimated minimum effort of 4 hours.
