Criteria

Creating Awareness with a Serious Game

L’Année de l’Innovation® game is designed to immerse participants in a simulated environment where they have to design and implement the Innovation Management System (IMS) of a fictitious organization. By alternating application of theoretical knowledge, game-based simulations and team interaction, participants acquire the understanding needed to develop an organization's capacity to innovate. In 3 hours, the game simulates a year of IMS development, and participants, as Innovation Managers, must choose new activities to implement each month and prioritize how to progress the innovation portfolio. At the end of the year, the value created is put into perspective with the organization's typology and its innovation intent.

The game favors the understanding of the systemic dynamics of IMS. It also helps to identify the key activities of an IMS and the complexity of their interactions and to measure their impact on the organization's performance in terms of innovation.

Key learnings

The recipient of this certificate has learned:

  • distinguishing between the concepts of innovation, innovation management and the Innovation Management System (IMS),
  • identifying ways to develop an organization's ability to generate ideas, drive projects forward, maximize value creation and build resilience,
  • that there is no one single best way to initiate an IMS, and that each approach has its advantages and limitations,
  • that an innovation management system is made up of interconnected elements linked to strategy, support, project management and continuous improvement,
  • that it is necessary to combine multiple activities to maximize the effectiveness of an IMS,
  • the importance of strategic resource management in the development of an IMS,
  • that an organization's size and sector influence the complexity and relevance of IMS activities,
  • that the activities to be prioritized depend on the organization’s objectives and level of ambition,
  • the importance of balancing the project process to consistently deliver value,
  • planning the implementation of an IMS over time,
  • the importance of the emotional dimension when developing an IMS,
  • differentiating between the jobs and responsibilities required to run an IMS, and the importance of working collaboratively to achieve innovation objectives,
  • bringing all the above elements into line with the ISO 56001 and ISO 56002 standards.
