DIGITAL ACADEMY – DIGITAL INTERNSHIPS FOR SUBTITLING AND PROOFREADING

FORTHEM (Fostering Outreach within European Regions, Transnational Higher Education and Mobility) is a network of nine multidisciplinary public research universities (FPUs) in Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Romania and Spain. The Digital Academy is the FORTHEM virtual platform offering extensive opportunities and shared learning experiences. Our mission is to provide high-quality educational options through interactive and accessible online courses. We aim to offer a wide range of courses, from arts and humanities to mathematics and statistics, from business and administration to agriculture and forestry, along with language mediation tools like subtitles. Selected interns will have the opportunity to actively participate in this project, by proofreading the automatic subtitles of the courses coordinated by an international team of experts.
GOAL OF THE INTERNSHIP: the internship aims to engage students directly in the Alliance's mission to enhance multilingualism within the educational experience of FORTHEM members.
OBJECTIVES OF THE INTERNSHIP: During the internship of the Digital Academy of the FORTHEM Alliance, the recipient of this badge actively participated in this project, by proofreading the automatic subtitles of the courses supported by an international team of experts. Starting from the analysis of the provided text, the intern revises it, delivering the final version, which is technically synchronized with the video course and linguistically correct. METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH
Supervision and Feedback
Each intern will be paired with a dedicated tutor/supervisor to provide continuous guidance and support.
Periodic evaluations and structured feedback loops will be conducted by academic coordinators to monitor progress.
Task-Based and Practical Learning
Analyze and proofread automatically generated subtitles for the Digital Academy courses.
Revise subtitle texts to ensure linguistic accuracy, cultural appropriateness, and technical synchronization.
Complete at least one finalized, proofread course subtitle set for inclusion in the Digital Academy catalog.
Skill Development Framework
Participate in hands-on workshops and training sessions focusing on subtitling, proofreading, and translation tools.
Gain real-world experience by working on multilingual content adaptation within an international educational platform.
Assessment and Monitoring
Interns will receive continuous feedback to refine their outputs and improve their methods.
Academic coordinators will conduct periodic evaluations to ensure alignment with the program's objectives.
OUTPUTS
Proofread the automatic subtitles of at least one course in the Digital Academy catalog and provide a proofread translation.
ON COMPLETION OF THIS PROGRAM, THE STUDENT WILL WALK AWAY WITH:

At least 3 ECTS credit to be recognized at home University. The specific amount of ECTS will be defined after selection according to the rules of the home University of the selected intern.
CRITERIA OF SELECTION: CV and grades for the languages from/into which the students intend to translate
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: the internship is meant for groups of students (at least 2)

ASSESMENT FORMAT
Continuous feedback loops and periodic evaluations will be implemented at FPUs by academic coordinators to measure progress, refine methodologies, and ensure alignment with program objectives.
