This badge recognises the personal and extra-curricular development undertaken by UCC staff in completing a Bystander Intervention Programme for the prevention of sexual and relationship violence. Individuals who complete 5 online workshops and one face-to-face workshop in the Bystander Intervention programme and complete an assignment will be awarded the UCC Bystander Intervention Digital Badge. The Bystander Intervention is a programme of 5 interactive, online, self-directed workshops supplemented by an in-person one hour workshop. The UCC programme was first developed for students in 2016-18 based on the Intervention Initiative (Fenton, Mott, McCartan & Rumney, 2014) by the Bystander team led by Professor Louise Crowley. It has now been modified for a workplace audience staff in the School of Law. The overarching aim of the UCC Bystander Intervention programme is to cultivate a culture of zero tolerance of all forms of unacceptable behaviour by empowering participants to actively contribute to a safe, supportive environment. Specifically, by developing their capacity to effect change through pro-social behaviour and attitudes, the programme contributes to a visible commitment to the delivery of a safer learning and working environment which impacts positively upon the broader social context.
