Innovation & Intellectual Property for Scientists & Engineers

Innovation runs in parallel to research and can lead to exciting opportunities for those involved. This digital badge course is designed to support students, researchers and academics in learning about innovation and intellectual property (IP) and the best practise in managing IP. This course explores how to protect IP (e.g. patenting, copyright, trademarks) and how to commercialise it (e.g. create a spinout company) to deliver impact in the real world and support entrepreneurial researchers. Awareness and experience with innovation and IP is an essential skill for both research and commercial industry, and this digital badge course equips learners with valuable translatable skills to enable them to identify, communicate and manage innovation and IP management. This course features local and international case studies, demonstrating the opportunities available through engaging with innovation and maximising the impact of personal and University IP.
