Badge Pathfinder 2020

This badge relates to the Digital Open Badges webinar series hosted by GMIT, Galway, on Tuesday 5th and Friday 8th May 2020. The webinars were short (3 hours total) information and training sessions, consisting of presentations to explain what digital open badges are and why they are important in the context of Higher Education. Part of the webinar was a 'live demonstration' training session using designapp.io, and the Open Badge Factory and Open Badge Passport platforms. Attendees saw the full cycle of developing an idea for a digital open badge, designing it graphically, creating and issuing it in the Open Badge Factory software, and exploring what you can do with a digital open badge when you receive one, using the Open Badge Passport.

This provided attendees with samples of the types of digital open badges that have been shown to promote engagement and motivation with undergraduate students.\n\nAs part of the first session, a 'live' demonstration was presented. This described and showed the process of creating a graphical element for an Open badge, developing the badge idea in the Open Badge Factory, issuing the badge, and a look at how to receive and manage a badge in the Open Badge Passport. This covered the range of skills and techniques required to get up and running with the basics of Open badge design, creation, issue and receipt.\n\nThe final part of the first session was an outline of a task set for each attendee: to design, create, issue and receive their own digital open badge.\n\nThe learning outcomes for this task are:\n\n1. Invent a digital open badge for a context of your choice.\n2. Design the digital open badge on paper, describing it precisely to include the criteria to be met in order to receive the badge.\n3. Access the Open Badge Factory account and explore its interface.\n4. Create the digital open badge within the Open Badge Factory platform.\n5. Issue the digital open badge to an email address.\n6. Receive a digital open badge and create an Open Badge Passport account to manage badges received.\n7.
