Bystander Intervention Digital Badge (Student)
This badge recognises the personal and extra-curricular development undertaken by UCC students in completing a Bystander Intervention Programme for the prevention of sexual and relationship violence. Individuals who complete 5 online workshops and one face-to-face workshop in the 2018-19. Bystander Intervention programme and complete an assignment will be awarded The UCC Bystander Intervention Digital Badge. The Bystander Intervention is a programme of 5 short (1hr) online sessions and one (1hr) face-to-face session, the Programme was adapted from the Intervention Initiative (Fenton, Mott, McCartan & Rumney, 2014) by staff in the School of Law. The programme is designed to provide understanding and knowledge of bystander intervention, social normalisation of behaviours, sexual assault and relationship abuse, and intervention skills to safely intervene in situations.
- Learn bystander intervention theory.
- Recognise that sexual and domestic violence are a serious problem in society and in student populations.
- Accept that individuals can often be mistaken about others? beliefs and values (social norms theory).
- Recognise the links between sexist attitudes, discriminatory practices and gender based violence.
