Holders of this badge are well placed to continue developing their professional practice within the framework of a programme that leads to Qualified Teacher Status.

Teachers who have achieved this standard:

  • have a secure knowledge of the relevant subject(s) and curriculum areas, foster and maintain pupils’ interest in the subject, and address misunderstandings
  • demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject and curriculum areas, and promote the value of scholarship
  • demonstrate an understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy, articulacy and the correct use of standard English, whatever the teacher’s specialist subject
  • if teaching early reading, demonstrate a clear understanding of systematic synthetic phonics
  • if teaching early mathematics, demonstrate a clear understanding of appropriate teaching strategies.

To earn this QTSlite badge, you need to demonstrate an ability to MAKE PROGRESS TOWARDS achieving this Teachers’ Standard. To demonstrate this ability you must complete the following THREE missions:

  1. MISSION 1 -ENHANCE YOUR SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE - With respect to the school context (or curriculum level) you are working in identify an area of your curriculum knowledge which could benefit from enhancement and do something about it!
  2. MISSION 2 - THE BROADER CURRICULUM - Demonstrate your knowledge of the curriculum by exploring how learning objectives fit within the broader curriculum.
  3. MISSION 3 - ASSESS YOUR ABILITY
