An AHEAD Resource called ARK (Accessibility Resources and Know-How) hosts a series of courses about Digital Accessibility. This badge acknowledges that the participant has completed the AHEAD short course called 'Digital accessibility - Digital Accessibility for Educators'. This short course will equip Educators with awareness and skills around digital accessibility for resources that are commonly used like presentations and documents as well as awareness about the legal aspects of digital accessibility too. The course is estimated to be approximately 2 hours long and all the content is online and self-directed.

AHEAD is an independent non-profit organisation working to create inclusive environments in education and employment for people with disabilities. The main focus of our work is further education and training, higher education and graduate employment.

AHEAD provides information to students and graduates with disabilities, teachers, guidance counsellors and parents on disability issues in education. We undertake national research relating to the inclusion of students with disabilities, contribute to national policy forums and provide professional development opportunities to develop the capacity of staff in FET and higher education to be more inclusive.

AHEAD works with graduates and employers through the GET AHEAD Graduate Forum and the WAM Mentored Work Placement Programme.

Criteria

The participant has developed digital accessibility awareness around the following matters:

  • Awareness of digital accessibility and its legal dimensions.
  • Accessibility skills and how to apply them to resources such as presentations and documents.
  • Accessibility frameworks to support the widening awareness of accessibility on multiple levels.
  • Awareness of some web accessibility guidelines.
  • The 3 pillars of inclusive practice.
  • How digital accessibility links to UDL.
  • The AbilityNet/McNaught accessibility maturity model
