This prestigious badge is awarded to University of Otago students who have demonstrated a well-rounded commitment to leadership, personal growth, and social impact. To achieve this badge, students must complete four categories in the Emerging Leaders Programme —including the compulsory Career Development category—and participate in three approved learning opportunities. These students have shown dedication to developing their leadership skills, engaging with their communities, and preparing for their future careers, making them well-equipped to create positive change in the world. Emerging Leaders Programme is a co-curricular social purpose and leadership development programme for University of Otago students. The programme is a joint initiative by the Social Impact Studio and the Career Development Centre.

Criteria

To achieve the Emerging Leaders Award, students must:

  • complete four categories within the Emerging Leaders Programme (minimum of 90 related Activity Hours), including the compulsory Career Development category
  • attended three approved learning opportunities

Each category involves: - A minimum of 30 related Activity Hours - A guided reflection on the skills, experience and impact achieved through their Activity Hours - An impact statement contextualising their activities in support of a UN Sustainable Development Goal
