In 2015, the United Nations Member States launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. The SDGs represent an urgent call to action for all countries, developed and developing alike, in a global partnership. They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and promote economic growth — all while tackling climate change and preserving our oceans and forests. Through interactive videos and learning objects, the Introduction to the SDGs course in the My Digital Backpack provides an engaging overview of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Learners will explore the core principles, key statistics, and related targets and indicators associated with each goal. On completion, students will understand the SDG framework and be able to articulate the aims and purpose of each goal, fostering awareness and advocacy for sustainable global development. This course was developed by ATU HigherEd 4.0, the ATU Centre for Sustainability, and the ATU N-TUTORR Team. My Digital Backpack was developed under the N‑TUTORR programme and funded by the European Union under the NextGenerationEU initiative, as part of Ireland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).
