Learning goals

Throughout the course stage, the participant developed skills to:

  1. Explain why environmental and social compliance inspections are necessary to ensure regulation and law enforcement
  2. Manage resources efficiently through targeted compliance promotion, compliance monitoring, inspections, and enforcement activities to achieve the best results
  3. Describe justice and equity considerations that should be part of compliance and enforcement planning
  4. Identify the inspection functions necessary for effective management of environmental and social risks and impacts and appropriate response to violations
  5. Identify what makes requirements enforceable to ensure compliance and good performance
  6. Select inspection activities to ensure compliance with regulatory framework
  7. Distinguish how to monitor compliance with specific rules
  8. Identify ways in which to collect, document, and present evidence, including samples, in a legally defensible manner
  9. Appraise the role community science and monitoring could play in supporting government compliance and enforcement programs

Learning experience and activities 

Self-paced course that includes:

  • Five modules with multimedia presentations, videos and downloadable materials that describe the fundamentals of social and environmental compliance inspections (SECI)
  • One multiple choice quiz at the end of each module
  • One multiple choice quiz at the end of the stage

Content / Topics

This stage of the course has five modules covering the following topics:

  • Introduction to Social and Environmental Compliance Inspections (SECI)
  • Targeting and Prioritization
  • The Inspector and Inspections
  • Enforceable Requirements
  • Defensible Evidence

Assessment description

Those who obtain the credential have successfully achieved one of the following options:

  • Option 1: Achieved a score of 90% or higher on the Stage 1 Placement Test.
  • Option 2: Successfully completed the following activities in stage 1:
    • Read the course content through interactive presentations
    • Responded to questions for reflection in the course discussion fora
    • Passed five learning assessment quizzes with 70% correct answers (one quiz for each course module). Two attempts per question
    • Passed one stage test with 70% correct answers. Two attempts per question

The average of the module quiz scores, and the stage test score is determined according to the following conditions:

  • Average of module quiz scores (75%)
  • Stage test score (25%)
