Criteria

The objectives of this placement are to:

  • Gain a broader experience of a range of illness patterns or approaches to health and wellbeing in a contrasting environment.
  • Recognise that health care systems are structured and function differently across the globe and within different parts of society.
  • Show understanding that culture is important and may influence behaviour.
  • Reflect on skills learned and knowledge gained and how these contribute to a future career.
  • Demonstrate your professional approach to arranging, completing and reporting on a self-directed period of study. This includes developing an electives proposal with learning objectives tailored to the setting and includes a range of clinical and professional competences.
  • Demonstrate improved professional communication, interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Carry out an individualised and adequately robust risk assessment of your placement to ensure you remain safe and well throughout your Elective.

Outcomes are demonstrated through:

  • The creation of a formal electives proposal
  • A post-elective assessment
  • The creation of a poster about the experience
