  • Earner has explored the diversity of trees in the UK. They have gained skills in basic tree identification through learning about trees and their properties, benefits, and the woodland ecology they support.
  • Earner has learnt about epiphytic and moss species, and why they are important for woodland health.
  • Earner has explored tree nurseries and the lifecycle of trees from seeds. They have participated in harvesting, collecting, and processing seeds that will be sown and grown to be used in the community forest.
  • Earner has engaged in a team activity to explore design ideas for a tree planting scheme being delivered in the city by the Plymouth and South Devon Community Forests. They have learnt basic landscape design techniques and considerations including species, placement, public consultation, and inclusion and diversity.
  • Earner has had an opportunity to apply green skills in woodland management, gaining insight into how woodlands are managed and conserved for nature and people. They have learnt about tool handling and woodland management techniques including woodland thinning practices such as coppicing, glade creation, and pollarding.
  • Earner has learnt about tree establishment through participating in a planting day with a community forest project tree scheme. They have developed practical skills in tree planting, tree aftercare, tree protection techniques, and tree maintenance such as mulching.
