This seminar explores the impact that Artificial Intelligence, particularly Generative AI (GenAI), has had on education about, for, and in media. The seminar aims to encourage media lecturers to adapt traditional learning tools affected by GenAI (such as essay writing and media creation) and to implement AI applications that can reduce admin workload, such as the creation of grading rubrics, ideation of syllabi, HELOs, and class scripts, critical thinking activity design, and co-assessment. Objectives Understand the role of Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI in contemporary media education, including how AI is reshaping media creation, media jobs, and the media value chain. Critically assess the implications of GenAI for teaching, learning, and assessment in media-related programmes. Adapt traditional media learning activities (e.g., essay writing, film analysis, media production tasks) to remain pedagogically meaningful. Identify and experiment with AI-supported workflows that reduce administrative workload. Develop an informed and pragmatic approach to integrating AI tools into media curricula. Competencies Acquired Explain basic concepts related to Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI. Describe current AI-driven transformations in the media industry and their implications for learning courses. Recognise institutional, ethical, and legal challenges related to AI use in higher education. Use AI tools to: Draft and refine syllabi, HELOs, grading rubrics, and class scripts. Design critical thinking activities and co-assessment frameworks. Prototype media creation workflows using text, image, audio, and video GenAI tools.
