Aalto University: Digital Ethics and Sustainability, 1 ECTS. This course explores the key sustainability challenges facing the environment, society, business and the information technology sector, and ask some difficult and justified questions about how to address these challenges. These issues are explored on the organisational and the broader institutional or societal levels introducing both mainstream and critical views of corporate responsibility, sustainability and the role of business and technology in our society. Upon completion of this course, the students have a high-level understanding of the scale, scope and speed of the disruption and destruction that digitalisation is having on companies, industries, societies and technological enablers that are driving the change. They can describe the changes that digitalisation brings at the level of industry structures and power, market dynamics and value chains. They are also able to describe the main characteristics of (multisided) platforms and platform economy, why platform economy is different to traditional business, and the significance on platforms for the economy at large.
