Criteria

How this badge is earned

The recipient signed the Principles for Trusted Elections, demonstrating their support for the constitutional principles, election safeguards, and democratic norms that make elections trustworthy.

By signing, recipients affirm five shared principles:

  • Honest Process — Support elections conducted honestly, impartially, and according to the rule of law, with fair access for all eligible voters.
  • Nonviolent Campaign — Reject violence, threats, harassment, and intimidation, protecting the right of voters, candidates, and election workers to participate safely and peacefully.
  • Secure Voting — Support secure, transparent, and accessible election systems that protect the integrity of the process and ensure every eligible vote is counted.
  • Responsible Oversight — Support transparent, accountable election administration and lawful oversight, with poll watchers, observers, and election officials respecting their roles and responsibilities.
  • Trusted Outcomes — Respect the lawful resolution of election disputes, recognize the legitimacy of certified results once lawful challenges are resolved, and support the peaceful transfer of power.

This badge recognizes that public commitment. It does not represent an endorsement of any candidate, party, political position, or electoral outcome.

About Principles for Trusted Elections

Principles for Trusted Elections (PTE) is a nonpartisan initiative that brings together citizens, civic leaders, election officials, and organizations from across the political spectrum around shared commitments to election integrity, the rule of law, civic responsibility, and respect for lawfully certified results.

The initiative is led by Team Democracy and guided by the National Alliance for an Enduring Democracy, a cross-partisan national steering committee co-chaired by The Carter Center and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation.

PTE promotes trustworthy election processes and democratic norms without endorsing candidates, parties, or electoral outcomes.

The Four Trusted Elections Badges

Our four digital badges recognize the ways individuals can help strengthen confidence in American elections:

Trusted Elections Supporter — AFFIRM Publicly affirm the five Principles for Trusted Elections and stand behind the democratic norms that unite us.

Trusted Elections Learner — LEARN Complete the educational program exploring the five Principles and how they help make elections trustworthy.

Trusted Elections Messenger — ACT Put your commitment into action by communicating your support for the Principles to others, whether through a personal statement, video, conversation, or sharing your badge.

Trusted Elections Champion — COMMIT + LEARN + ACT Earn all three badges—Supporter, Learner, and Messenger—demonstrating a commitment to affirming, understanding, and communicating the values behind trusted elections.

The badges can be earned in any order. Each recognizes a specific accomplishment, and together they reflect a growing commitment to strengthening civic trust.

Trust starts with you. Together, we can help strengthen confidence in our elections and protect the democratic principles that unite us.

I'm proud to affirm the Principles for Trusted Elections, and I encourage others to join me. Our democracy is strongest when we protect both our right to disagree and our shared commitment to the democratic process.
