This badge will have been earned by coordinating, encouraging and supporting other students acting in the roles of coaches and mentors, including on internship schemes. This will have involved supporting students and working with staff on Open University modules, qualifications and initiatives to enhance the student experience. This leadership role will have involved a hands-on role in developing projects to be sustainable and develop capacity.

Criteria

Criteria are important fields regarding a digital badge because this is where it is determined why the badge has been created and on what terms it has been issued to the badge earner. The criteria which will have been met for this badge are:

  1. Coordinating a team(s) of students and/or students-staff - examples might include: ensuring everyone can access the necessary resources, inviting them to join their team, organising meetings to get the teams together to plan activities, monitoring activity and maintaining momentum.

  2. Encouraging peer students in their work - examples might include: modelling actions, initiating activities, keeping in contact with all members, being sensitive about the capacity of others, helping coach/mentor self-reflection.

  3. Supporting peer students and wider teaching/academic teams - examples might include: aiding understanding of the roles, knowing and maximising the use of existing resources, helping other students to meet their goals, responding to student and coach/mentor feedback with ideas for further support.

  4. Being proactive in developing the capacity of a student or student-staff team - examples might include: encouraging teams to identify opportunities for new ways of working, supporting the development of new resources for the team as a whole, responding to challenges and issues as they arise.

  5. Making contributions to the development of a student or student-staff initiative or programme of activity - examples might include: planning for sustainability, advocating for the programme, involvement in dissemination and making links beyond the current scope of the programme
