During the “OSINT Basic” training, the participants learn the basic skills needed to conduct a good investigation on the Internet. After completing this training, the participants can conduct an investigation on the Internet, interpret the information found and then verbalise/report it in the correct context. Upon successful completion of the training, participants will receive the Registered OSINT Practitioner® Badge. This course is part of the OSINT training trajectory .

Criteria

To receive this Badge and to be allowed to carry the title Registered OSINT Practitioner ® from the Stichting Permanente Educatie Nederland the following criteria have been established.

Acquired competences and skills

  • Gaining an understanding of what OSINT is and its place in the intel cycles.
  • Being able to write a search plan for an OSINT investigation.
  • The ability to set up various web browsers with extensions for the purpose of an investigation.
  • Understanding the legal framework applicable during an investigation.
  • Gaining insight into the operation of IP addresses and DNS.
  • Gaining insight into anonymisation techniques to protect the investigator.
  • Gaining insight into harm risks during an investigation.
  • Being able to use basic search techniques in Google using operators and strings.
  • Gaining insight into the possibilities of social media investigation.
  • Gaining insight into the possibilities of reverse image search and being able to apply it correctly.
  • Being able to search in archived websites and pages.
  • Being able to examine e-mail headers and properties of documents.

This course is part of the OSINT training trajectory that also includes the Advanced and Technical courses. After completing all three courses you will receive the OSINT Complete Badge.
