Criteria

To earn the Art of Communication in Dental Settings Digital Badge, participants must complete 3 hours of instruction that combines lectures, interactive activities, and simulated patient communication scenarios.

Learners demonstrate their ability to:

  • Identify and interpret verbal and non-verbal communication cues commonly encountered in dental care environments.
  • Apply empathetic listening and responsive communication strategies to build trust and reduce patient anxiety.
  • Adjust language, tone, and messaging to accommodate the cultural, emotional, and educational needs of diverse patients.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, colleagues, and supervising dental professionals.
  • Recognize and troubleshoot common communication barriers in patient-provider interactions.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through appropriate clinical language, documentation, and interpersonal demeanor.
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a dental team by participating in role-based scenarios that simulate real-world clinical conversations.

Competency is verified through written reflections, role-play assessments, and exams evaluating communication techniques.
