The SPEAK Programme is delivered over a 6-week period. The course will consist of six weeks (6 x 1 hrs) of face-to-face sessions, supplemented by readings, research and practice between each lesson consisting of a minimum of 1.5 hours per week. As each session will deliver a specific element of presentation skills participants will become aware of the broad spectrum of performance in everyday life and engage in the exercises provided thereby applying these skills to their personal and professional roles. Staff will develop specific techniques to enhance presentation skills and visual communication. The preparatory work, together with the introduction to new technology such as Canvas, will provide engagement opportunities for the participants to explore the area of visual communication, creating visual stories as they progress through the course. The participants will also be introduced to techniques that introduce an expanded range of physical and vocal expressiveness, expanded approaches to audience awareness and enlarged awareness of non-verbal and non-physical communication. Storytelling, improvisation, scripting, messaging and digital skills will all be explored in the sessions allowing for the development of a full set of skills required for successful dissemination.
