National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

This Digital Badge is for professionals who interact either directly or indirectly with students beyond the reaches of the classroom setting in further education & training or higher education in Ireland. It introduces them to the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework and how they can implement it in different contexts, services and supports. It provides participants with a sustained opportunity to critically reflect on their work and make changes to the practice by embedding UDL. Learner hours completed: 25 (equivalent to 1 ECT)

Issuer

The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, which operates under the aegis of the Higher Education Authority (HEA), is the national body responsible for leading and advising on the enhancement of teaching and learning in Irish higher education.

Criteria

Awardees have achieved this Badge in recognition of their work to:

  1. Explain the current context in relation to Universal Design in tertiary education, reflecting on the diversity of your own student/learner populations.
  2. Explain and demonstrate understanding of the key areas of accessibility legislation which must be adhered to in an educational setting.
  3. Evaluate the diverse needs of learners, identifying how learners’ circumstances can impact their experience.
  4. Reflect on how you can remove barriers to access through Universal Design of student/learner supports and services.
  5. Apply the principles of Universal Design to your own practice.
