The EDUNEXT International Conference 2026 (EIC26) titled "Practices and research in open, distance, and digital education: towards not extraordinary praxis", took place at University of Palermo, Italy, from June 17 to 19, 2026. The event was organized by EDUNEXT (edunext.eu), a network of 35 Italian universities and 5 academies and conservatories funded by the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research, that during the past two years has enriched the Italian higher education landscape with innovative proposals in online learning. The conference brought together scholars, researchers, educators, technologists, Ph.D. students and professionals to map and normalize experiences and research in open, distance, and digital education as everyday, not exceptional practices, exploring teaching, research, institutional challenges through the lens of the EDUNEXT initiative. It focused on analyzing teaching methods, technological solutions, and processes for designing and managing learning experiences across the diverse landscape of online education, as well as on the integration of digital and AI-based tools into traditional teaching. The conference featured three tracks: EDUNEXT Initiatives, Experiences and Research, and Ph.D. Showcase. It was held entirely in person, and presentations were delivered in either Italian or English. Il progetto è finanziato dall’Unione Europea – Next Generation EU – e il Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca.
