WASH in Epidemics

Save the Children is a global movement made up of national member organisations. Save the Children UK is the oldest and one of the biggest members.

The holder of this badge should be able to:

• Describe three infectious disease transmission routes typically encountered in humanitarian settings, and explain the role of WASH interventions in preventing, mitigating, and breaking these transmission routes;​
• Explain how to implement critical WASH interventions—including safe and adequate water supply and waste disposal management—in a community and densely populated setting, in a health care facility and in a school environment;​
• Recognize the importance of enhancing rapid changes in community attitudes and behavior towards sanitation and hygiene during an infectious disease outbreak, and; ​
• Describe how to integrate WASH interventions in an infectious disease outbreak with other key thematic sectors, to ensure a holistic and human-centered response.
