Research Assessment is changing in recognition of global movements such as DORA, the Leiden Manifesto and CoARA (Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment) which view traditional bibliometric indicators critically. This module outlines the principles and best practices for applying research metrics in a fair, transparent, and accountable way. Upon completion participants will be able to • Select and combine indicators for research excellence tailored to their discipline • Highlight broader societal or co-creative contributions as well as traditional research achievements • Support early-career researchers alongside established academics • Understand the principles of a Narrative CV

Criteria

  • Identify traditional Bibliometrics (such as total citations, h-index, FWCI, JIF etc), alt-metrics, explain their limitations and biases and apply them responsibly.
  • Explain the key frameworks and principles of Responsible Research Assessment (DORA, Leiden Manifesto, CoARA.
  • Integrate Narrative CVs and Diverse Research Outputs into assessment in accordance with Responsible Research Assessment Frameworks.
  • Identify Open Research practices and recognize how they can drive research transparency, collaboration and integrity.
  • Reflect on best practices of responsible research assessment by using qualitative criteria to complement traditional measures, rather than replacing them.
